The 4 turbine-generator sets at Tilbury B Power Station were manufactured by GEC and entered service in 1968. Each turbine had a generating capacity of 357 MW.
The control room at Tilbury Power Station remained largely original, and was upgraded to use the APMS system for control in 2005.
Tilbury power station had four boilers to generate steam for the turbines. The boilers were initially coal fired, and were converted to fire biomass in 2011.
Coal was delivered to Tilbury via a jetty in the Thames. Two continuous ship unloaders manufactured by Noell Kone Cranes were installed on the jetty.
